Chairman of the Thua Thien-Hue provincial People’s Council Nguyen Ngoc Thien has inspected preparations for the Hue Festival 2014 to make sure all are ready for the biannual cultural event, slated for April 12-20.

During his fact-finding tour of the main venue in the imperial city of Hue on April 10, Thien underlined security and order at this year’s event, which is expected to welcome a large number of domestic and foreign delegations and visitors.

He also asked the organising board to better arrange areas for foreign guests and reporters.

The installation of nine stages with capacities from 500 – 2,000 seats is underway. Notably, areas in front of the stages for the opening and closing ceremonies can serve up to 6,000 and 4,000 people, respectively.

This year, the festival will highlight Nha Nhac, the royal court music of Hue , which has been named by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. It will also feature an Ao dai show and exhibitions depicting Hue kite flying, calligraphy, food demos and street performance, among others.

Special performances by 68 arts troupes with 1,400 artists and instrumentalists across the globe will also be offered.

The organising board has publicised the festival’s schedule to help visitors easily follow the event.

Themed “Cultural Heritage with Integration and Development”, the festival will also include an East Asia-Latin America cultural exchange forum held by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the ASEAN+3 Ministerial Meeting on Culture and Fine Arts.

The 2014 Hue Festival is expected to attract 200,000 visitors, half of them will be foreigners.-VNA
