President attends National Economics University’s celebration

President Truong Tan Sang attended a ceremony at the National Economics University to mark its 55 th founding anniversary and Vietnam ’s Teachers’ Day (Nov. 20), in Hanoi on Nov. 19.

On this occasion, the university was awarded the Ho Chi Minh Order by the Party and State for the second time.

President Sang praised efforts by the university’s teachers, staffs and students for their great contributions to the cause of national construction and defence.

He affirmed that developing human resources is an important task to implement the target of the 11 th Party Congress to turn the country into an industrialised country by 2020. To successfully implement the strategy, the educational sector must reform itself basically, comprehensively and strongly with the most urgent issue is to improve the comprehensive quality of tertiary education.

The National Economics University , previously was the Central Financial Economics School , was established in 1956.

Over the past 55 years, the university trained 55,639 regular graduates, 52,194 in-service graduates, and almost 7,000 master and doctorate degree holders.

The university also led the trend of expanding international integration and renewal of university management mechanism in the country.

The same day, National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung visited the Border Guards Academy on the occasion of the National Teachers’ Day and the academy’s receiving the title “Hero of People’s Armed Forces”./.
