State President Nguyen Minh Triet has confirmed that the Party and State always create the best possible conditions for blind people to ease difficulties in their lives.

President Triet said this at a meeting with the Vietnam Blind Association (VBA) in Hanoi on July 21.

He highlighted the VBA’s achievements over the past 40 years, adding that the association has helped thousands of its members to carve out a meaningful life.

The State leader took the occasion to thank domestic and foreign individuals and organisations for their valuable help to blind people nationwide.

He said he hoped that the VBA would work with localities to help the blind nationwide to join the association so as to take advantage of the Party and State policies as well as domestic and foreign help.

The President also said he would instruct the relevant ministries and sectors to facilitate the association’s activities such as building houses for its members.

VBA President Dao Soat said that the VBA has set up 43 chapters in 372 districts with more than 60,000 members since being founded in 1969.

Over the past 40 years, the association has provided loans worth more than 38 billion VND to its members to develop production, established 318 businesses and generated stable jobs for more than 4,000 members.

In addition, it has implemented a number of projects to help the blind confirm their role in their families and society such as the illiteracy eradication project, the community-based rehabilitation and information technology training programme.

The VBA leader also pledged to raise the quality of vocational training for the blind.

On the occasion, the VBA presented the insignia “For Blind People’s Happiness” to President Triet.

Earlier, President Triet visited classes for the blind, a Braille printing workshop and planted trees at the VBA’s Rehabilitation Training Centre./.
