President Truong Tan Sang on December 10 led a State delegation to pay tribute to and lay floral wreaths for late President of South Africa Nelson Mandela at the country’s embassy in Hanoi.
Sharing his condolences with the embassy staff, President Sang said the Vietnamese Party, State and people mourned for the late President, the eminent leader of anti-apartheid movements.
Nelson Mandela will always be a symbol for peace and justice, he added.
In the funeral register book, the Vietnamese leader expressed his profound sympathy to the family of the late president and the African National Congress, as well as the State, and people of the African country.
He wrote that he believes South African people will overcome this great loss to continue making great achievements in national development.
On the same day, delegations from the Party Central Committee’s Commission for External Relations, the Ministries of Defence, and Agriculture and Rural Development, and the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organisations also paid their tributes to Nelson Mandela at the embassy.
More than 90 State leaders around the world attended the funeral ceremony for the late president at Soccer City Stadium in Johannesburg.
Mandela passed away on December 5 at the age of 95.
He was a staunch soldier and a prominent hero of the South African people, who devoted his whole life to the fight against oppression, injustice and apartheid, and constantly sought freedom, justice, equality and social progress for South Africa and the world.-VNA
