President Truong Tan Sang on March 19 left Tokyo for Osaka - Japan’s
leading industrial centre in the Kansai region - with the aim of
boosting cooperation between the two countries’ localities and
businesses.

Immediately after arriving, the Vietnamese President held a meeting with representatives of the Kansai Economic Federation (Kankeiren) and business leaders of the Kansai region.
He praised the close cooperation between the Japanese side and the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Vietnam Embassy and Consulate General in Osaka over the past years.
The president stressed that Vietnam is actively taking part in ASEAN-Japan economic cooperation through ASEAN Plus Three and free trade agreements with the European Union and the Customs Union of Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan. It is also a driving force behind ongoing negotiations on the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) agreement.
Holding important political, economic and geographical positions, Vietnam and Japan could support each other in development, he said, pledging favourable conditions for Japanese investors.
Both Vietnamese State-own and private businesses wish to find strategic partners in Japan in general and the Kansai region in particular, Sang remarked.
Later in the day, he attended a Vietnam-Japan business forum in Osaka city, during which he said Vietnam is deploying its 2011-2020 socio-economic economic development strategy, towards the goal of becoming fully industrialised in 2020.
In order to fulfill the target, developing the support industry is seen as an urgent and long-term strategic task, he said, calling on the Japanese side to enhance their assistance to Vietnam in this field.
While in Osaka, President Sang met with leaders of the Japan-Vietnam Friendship Associations in Kansai, Osaka, Kyoto, Kobe, Sakai and Hiroshima.
He presented friendship orders to individuals who have greatly contributed to enhancing mutual trust in politics as well as the friendship and understanding between the two countries’ peoples.
Along with relations between the two governments, Vietnam has attached importance to expanding cooperation between the two countries’ localities, considering this an integral part of the Vietnam-Japan relationship, he affirmed.
The president also had working sessions with leaders of Kyoto, Osaka, Hyogo and Kobe, and witnessed the signing of a cooperative agreement between Kyoto and Vietnam’s central Hue city.
At the meetings, he stressed that the State and localities of Vietnam welcome all cities and prefectures in the Kansai region to expand multi-faceted and mutual beneficiary cooperation with the country.
He called on the authorities of Kansai’s cities and prefectures to continue their collaboration with Vietnam, especially in economics, trade, investment and human resources development.
