President Truong Tan Sang has called on the Vietnam War Veterans’ Association (VWVA) at all levels to contribute to national economic development, cultural preservation and building the Party as set under the Resolution of the 11 th National Party Congress.

At a working session with VWVA in Hanoi on Apr. 18 on the occasion of the 37 th anniversary of the liberation of South Vietnam and national reunification, Sang praised the contributions made by generations of Vietnamese war veterans during the past 20 years.

He said the VWVA is worthy of being a socio-political organisation representing the will and interests of war veterans. The association has become a reliable support for Party committees and authorities at all levels, he said.

The war veterans said they wish the Party and State leaders will pay attention to combining economic development and ensuring security and defence in key areas, building a strong law-governed State and effectively bringing the Resolution of the Party Central Committee’s fourth meeting into life.

The VWVA now has more than 3.6 million members living in all regions throughout the country.

Over 5,000 businesses and cooperatives owned by VWVA members helped generate jobs for 200,000 workers. They also donated billions of VND for charitable activities and disaster relief.-VNA
