Hanoi (VNA) – Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc hosted a banquet on August 31 night for diplomatic delegations and international organisations to celebrate the 71st anniversary of Vietnam’s National Day.
In his speech, PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc stressed that since declaring independence on September 2, 1945, the Vietnamese people have overcome all difficulties and challenges to preserve the nation’s independence and freedom and national unification, while carrying out the Doi Moi (renewal) cause and have achieved historical accomplishments.
From a poor and underdeveloped country due to war damages, Vietnam has become a middle-income country, improved its people’s living conditions and completed many Millennium Development Goals ahead of schedule, he said.
“The Government of Vietnam is committed to building a government that is instrumental to development, a government of integrity with strong actions in service of people,” PM Phuc said.
At the same time, Vietnam will strengthen friendship and cooperation with all countries and friends around the world, particularly countries with which we share a border, he said, adding that the country will also make efforts to sustain peace and stability in the region and settle disagreements and differences by peaceful means on the basis of international law.
The head of the Diplomatic Corps to Vietnam, El Houcine Fardani extended warmest congratulations to Vietnamese Party and State leaders and the people on the anniversary, and also on the country’s successful organization of the 12th Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam and the election of the National Assembly and the leadership of the country.
He said the political and economic reforms launched in 1986 at the sixth Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam have transformed, at a fast pace, the country from one of the poorest in the world to the middle income status.
“The socio-economic development path covered by Vietnam during the last three decades is simply exceptional,” El Houcine Fardani said, adding that Vietnam’s experience is a source of inspiration for many developing countries.
He went on to say that at the same time, thanks to its foreign policy based on the multilateralism, diversification and independence, Vietnam is now playing an active role on the regional and international levels contributing to maintain peace and stability in the region and the world.
The diplomat expressed the belief that under the newly elected leadership, Viet Nam will successfully carry out its Socio-Economic Development Strategies and will continue its outstanding efforts in nation-building, development and modernization of the country for a bright future for its people.
He concluded by reaffirming the international community’s shared willingness and determination to develop the already strong relations between Vietnam and other countries and international organizations, through active and efficient cooperation for mutual benefits.-VNA
