– The 11th “Spring forchildren” programme will be held at the Hanoi Opera House on January 21 andbroadcast live on VTV2 of the Vietnam Television.

Jointly organised by the Ministry of Labour,Invalids and Social Affairs (MoLISA) and the National Fund for VietnameseChildren (NFVC), the programme aims to present gifts to underprivilegedchildren on the occasion of the traditional Lunar New Year (Tet holiday).

Speaking at a press conference in Hanoi onJanuary 16, Director of the NFVC Hoang Van Tien said the MoLISA will grantcertificates of merit to nine units and individuals with notable achievementsin child care and protection in 2017.

The NFVC will also honour children who overcamedifficulties to reap outstanding academic outcomes.

The programme will highlight activities to buildboarding schools for children in the mountainous area of Ngan Son district inthe northern Bac Kan province.

It is expected to receive funding worth about70-80 billion VND (over 3 million USD) from 50 units.

In 2017, the NFVC spent over 79 billion VND (3.5million USD) supporting 106,400 children via health care, nutrition, andeducation programmes. 

In 2018, the fund aims to mobilise about 10.5billion VND (463,000 USD) to support nearly 120,000 children.

Since it was held in 2008, the “Spring forchildren” programme has raised hundreds of billions of VND to assist poorchildren nationwide.-VNA

Efforts to lift “yellow card”: Vietnam targets responsible fisheries development

Dong Thap province’s fishing fleet operates mainly in the Ba Dong, Vung Tau and South Con Son fishing grounds, with about 60% of vessels having large capacity sufficient to venture into deep-sea areas. To date, 1,291 vehicles have been licensed, equipped with vessel monitoring systems (VMS), and had their data fully updated on the national fisheries database (Vnfishbase).

State President approves two Tet gift levels for revolution contributors

The gift level of 600,000 VND will be presented to individuals who participated in revolutionary activities before January 1, 1945 and are receiving monthly allowances; Heroic Vietnamese Mothers receiving monthly preferential allowances; Heroes of the People’s Armed Forces and Labour Heroes during the resistance wars who are receiving monthly allowances.

Traffic accidents drop 25.45% on last day of New Year holiday

A total of 41 traffic accidents were recorded nationwide on the day, leaving 19 people dead and 30 others injured, with estimated property losses of 212.5 million VND (8,079 USD), according to the Ministry of Public Security’s Traffic Police Department.
