Rain-triggered floods, landslides kill six in Ha Giang

Floods and landslides triggered by torrential rains since June 19 have killed six persons in the northern mountainous province of Ha Giang.

Ha Giang (VNA) – Floods and landslides triggered by torrentialrains since June 19 have killed six persons in the northern mountainousprovince of Ha Giang.

A 49-year-old man and his 21-year-old son died when their boatoverturned in Lo River, while lighting during rains claimed the lives of two inBac Quang and Yen Minh districts. Two others die in landslides in Meo Vacdistrict.

Many key traffic routes are being buried under soil and stones,including roads to Xi Cai and Son Vi communes in Meo Vac district, NationalRoad 34 from Ha Giang city to Bac Me district, and a road from Coc Pai town toNa Tri commune in Xin Man district. Local transport authorities have mobilized allresources to clear up the road.

Vice Chairwoman of the provincial People’s Committee Ha Thi Minh Hangsaid various working teams have been sent to affected localities to assistlocal authorities in coping with the situation and assessing the damages fortimely support, as rain is still continuing in the province.-VNA

Three new plant species discovered in Nui Chua National Park

The newly discovered species are shrub-like smaller trees with floriferous branchlets called Sam cuong dai (Memecylon longipedunculatum), Diep ha chau Nui Chua (Nymphanthus adenophorus) and Long muc Nui Chua (Wrightia nuichuaensis). Their discovery was officially published in Phytotaxa, a leading international journal on plant taxonomy and biodiversity, on January 19, 2025.
