The Vietnam Red Cross (VRC) signed a programme in Hanoi on April 6to forge partnerships in humanitarian activities with nine agencies andbusinesses for the 2013–2018 period.
The ninepartners include Vietnam Television (VTV), Radio the Voice of Vietnam(VOV), Vietnam Multimedia Corporation (VTC), Latsata Joint StockCompany, State Bank of Vietnam (SBV), State Committee for OverseasVietnamese Affairs, Border Guard High Command, military-run telecomscompany Viettel, and the Republic of Korea-invested Miwon Vietnam.
During the period, the partners will coordinate with the VRC toorganise activities to raise public awareness of humanitarian values andmobilise resources to help those living in difficulties. They will alsoencourage their staff to engage in humanitarian activities.
This year, they will focus on a programme to provide 2,900 breedingcows worth 30 billion VND (1.4 million USD) to farmers in 62 poordistricts, while raising funds to ensure underprivileged people andAgent Orange victims nationwide have a sufficient lunar New Yearfestival in 2014.
Addressing the event, PresidentTruong Tan Sang said the increased coordination between VRC andministries, departments and benefactors at home and abroad, along withthe Vietnamese Party, State and people will help bring better materialand spiritual lives to the needy.
At the event, SBVregistered a donation of 6 billion VND (300,000 USD) to the cow bankproject and the VRC’s humanitarian fund. The Vietnam National Oil andGas Group and Viettel Corporation donated 3.6 billion VND (170,000 USD)and 3.5 billion VND (160,000 USD) respectively.-VNA
