Over 35 years, through 15 visits and thousands of images, their journey has become not only a visual record of Vietnam’s transformation, but also a story of human connection, memory, and friendship that transcends borders.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh’s tour to Europe from June 5 to 14 served as a solid foundation and source of inspiration for Vietnam to continue realising its national development goals and attracting international resources in the new era.
During the trip, the PM engaged in more than 80 activities. It helped deepen bilateral ties, contributing to peace, cooperation, and development both in the region and the world at large.
The Vietnamese leader proposed Uppsala University establish a partnership with a national university in Vietnam; strengthen collaboration in education, research, and academic exchanges with Vietnamese institutions; and offer scholarships to Vietnamese students and researchers, thus advancing the newly established sectoral strategic partnership in science, technology, and innovation between the two countries.
The PM called for closer, broader, and more effective cooperation with Vietnamese partners, guided by the principles of mutual benefit, joint efforts, shared outcomes, and common development, including promoting stronger public-private partnerships and collaboration with businesses.
The PM revealed Vietnam’s plan to develop nuclear power in the near future, and called on the Swedish side to assist Vietnam in developing and refining legal and policy frameworks for the use of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes; training and developing human resources; ensuring nuclear safety; and conducting training and drills to improve incident management capabilities.
On this occasion, the two leaders agreed to elevate bilateral ties to a sectoral strategic partnership in science, technology, and innovation, and pledged to intensify cooperation in various areas, including innovation, high technology, nuclear energy, semiconductors, green and digital transitions.

Along with the good political relations, economic ties between Vietnam and Sweden have also grown steadily.
PM Pham Minh Chinh said that efforts by the Vietnamese community in Sweden to contribute to their host society are also acts of patriotism, and that all contributions are deeply appreciated.
This is the first visit to Sweden by a Vietnamese PM in six years, aiming to further intensify Vietnam’s relations with Sweden, which holds an important role and stature in Europe.

Thus, the HCMA wants to boost collaboration with the Swedish side on administrative reform and public governance against the backdrop of digital transformation.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) and the Swedish Embassy in Vietnam held a seminar in Hanoi on December 6 to look into achievements and prospects over 55 years of Vietnam - Sweden diplomatic relations.
