Kien Giang (VNA) - A service was held at a martyrs’ cemetery in the Mekong Delta province of Kien Giang on December 17 to rebury the remains of 262 Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts who laid down their lives in Cambodia during wartime.

The service was held on the occasion of the 76th founding anniversary of the Vietnam People’s Army (December 22).

Speaking at the ceremony, Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Nguyen Thanh Nhan expressed his deepest gratitude to the fallen soldiers and his sympathies to the bereaved families.

He said the people and armed forces of Vietnam and Cambodia stood side-by-side during the wars against colonialists and imperialists, noting that Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts also sacrificed their lives to help the neighbouring country escape from the Pol Pot genocidal regime.

Kien Giang will continue with its social welfare work, thus bringing a better life to war invalids and the families of martyrs, Nhan promised./.
