Requiem held for martyrs in Tay Ninh

A ceremony took place in the southern province of Tay Ninh on July 22 to commemorate fallen soldiers at a martyr memorial site of the Ho Chi Minh City Youth Volunteers in Ben Cau district.

Tay Ninh (VNA) – A ceremony tookplace in the southern province of Tay Ninh on July 22 to commemorate fallensoldiers at a martyr memorial site of the Ho Chi Minh City Youth Volunteers inBen Cau district.

Attending the ceremony were families of themartyrs and more than 300 former youth volunteers.

In April 1977, the Khmer Rouge army beganslaughtering Vietnamese across southwestern border provinces. Youths and publicpersonnel from the outskirts of Ho Chi Minh City and nearby provincesvolunteered to carry out logistics work and fight at the front. On thatbattlefield, 99 volunteers sacrificed their life.

The Ho Chi Minh City Youth Volunteer Forcedecided to designate July 22 as the death anniversary of its members.

Speaking at this year’s requiem in Tay Ninh,secretary of the force’s central committee Nguyen Huu Phong expressed his prideof his predecessors’ traditions.

The younger generation is willing to buildon such traditions, contributing to fulfilling socio-economic missions detailedby the Party and Government, he said.-VNA

Search efforts continue for Vietnamese fallen soldiers in Cambodia
