A solemn requiem was held in the northern mountainous province of Son La on July 24-25 to commemorate the heroic soldiers who laid down their lives for the nation.

The event is a part of activities nationwide to mark the 67th anniversary of the War Invalids and Martyrs Day (July 27).

From 1930 to 1945, more than 1,000 revolutionary soldiers were detained in the Son La prison. The prison is now the resting place of 30 martyrs who were held and lost their lives there.

On July 25, reburial ceremonies were held in the southern provinces of Tay Ninh and Kien Giang for remains of 264 Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts who laid down their lives in Cambodia during wartime.

Since 2001, remains of more than 2,900 Vietnamese fallen soldiers in Cambodia have been repatriated to Tay Ninh, while remains of over 1,800 others to Kien Giang.-VNA
