That day 35 years ago the two parts of Vietnam were reunified after the collapse of the US-backed Saigon regime.
Dung, also Head of the Vietnamese mission at the European Union, said at the meeting that it was the victory of the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam and President Ho Chi Minh as well as the strength of the national unity.
The victory was also attributed to contributions by the Vietnamese overseas community who joined hands with their compatriots at home in various fields, said the senior diplomat.
He acknowledged expatriates’ contributions to the nation’s current achievements, calling for greater efforts of the entire Vietnamese people, both at home and abroad, to boost economic development and safeguard the national independence and sovereignty.
Dung also called on the Vietnamese community in Belgium to follow the host country’s law while strengthening internal unity to build a strong community.
Also on the occasion of the 65th anniversary of victory over fascism (May 9), Vietnamese Ambassador to Germany Do Hoa Binh and the embassy staff paid floral tributes to the Soviet Memorial in Treptower Park in Berlin, to commemorate the former Soviet Union Red Army soldiers who sacrificed in the fierce struggle against fascism./.
