RoK President Lee Myung-bak said he is pleased with progress in his country’s relations with Vietnam , especially the agreement on upgrading their relationship to the level of a strategic partnership.

Receiving the new Vietnamese Ambassador to the Republic of Korea (RoK) Tran Trong Toan in Seoul in March 31, President Lee said he was hopeful that with efforts from both sides, friendship and cooperation between the two countries will grow even further.

He lauded Vietnam ’s increasingly strengthened role and position in the international arena and its assumption of the Chair of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations in 2010.

Recalling his impressions of Vietnam during his official visit last October, the RoK leader said he believed the Southeast Asian country will develop more strongly in the coming time.

Ambassador Toan conveyed the greetings and best regards of President Nguyen Minh Triet and Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung to the RoK President.

He pledged to do his best to contribute to realising all agreements reached by the two countries’ leaders, especially the contents of the bilateral strategic cooperation partnership.

The diplomat wished the RoK government great success in holding the first G-20 Summit in Asia , which will take place in November./.
