Seoul (VNA) – President of the Republic of Korea (RoK) Moon Jae-in arrived in Malaysia on March 12 for a three-day State visit.

Moon is the first RoK President to visit Malaysia in nine years. During the visit, he is scheduled to meet Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad on March 13 to discuss ways to promote cooperation and exchange between the two countries.

Their talks will focus on measures to step up the bilateral ties and expand economic cooperation.

According to the RoK’s KBS News, President Moon attended a joint exhibition of Hallyu and halal products in the Malaysian capital city of Kuala Lumpur.

According to the RoK presidential office, the event at 1 Utama Shopping Centre in Kuala Lumpur on March 12 was arranged to strengthen exchanges between the two countries through Korean culture and traditional Islamic goods.

RoK actresses and K-pop groups were among those present to see hundreds of Hallyu and halal-related products on display.

President Moon delivered a congratulatory speech for the event and noted that the combination of Hallyu and halal will help create a new market.

He spoke of Hallyu’s potential to enhance Malaysians’ understanding of the RoK and bring the people of the two countries closer together.

Malaysia is the second leg of Moon’s tour of three Southeast Asian nations. He visited Brunei and is scheduled to visit Cambodia after concluding the Malaysia trip.-VNA
