Sea dyke erosion worsens in Kien Giang

Close to 40km of a 200 km sea dyke stretching from Mui Nai in Ha Tien Commune to Tieu Dua in An Minh District of the southern coastal province of Kien Giang is facing serious erosion.

Kien Giang (VNA) – Close to 40km ofa 200 km sea dyke stretching from Mui Nai in Ha Tien Commune to Tieu Dua in AnMinh District of the southern coastal province of Kien Giang is facing seriouserosion.  

Of which over 34 km has been severely eroded,directly affecting the lives of 250 households in four districts of Kien Luong,Hon Dat, An Bien and An Minh. 

A total of 1,000 ha of coastal alluvial land werewashed away in the past 10 years. 

The provincial People’s Committee has directedauthorised agencies to take counter measures, including applying Biotypetechnology to decrease wave strength and setting a double layer cajuputbarrier.

The locality has alsofocused on protecting existing mangrove forests and planting more trees toincrease protection capacity of coastal forests.

According to Director of the province’sDepartment of Agriculture and Rural Development Nguyen Van Tam, theimplementation of a number of projects has been stepped up to prevent erosion,including the construction of the An Bien – An Minh sea dyke, the restorationof protective forests and the planting of mangrove forests to protect sea dykein An Bien and Hon Dat districts.-VNA

Wutip storm ravages central Vietnam, leaving trail of destruction

Vietnam ramps up plastic waste recycling, reuse, treatment efforts

In 2019, Quang Ninh became one of the first localities in Vietnam to launch a province-wide campaign against plastic waste, mobilising the participation of the political system, the business sector, and the general public. Other localities—such as Hai Phong, Da Nang, Binh Duong, and Ho Chi Minh City—have also effectively implemented waste-sorting initiatives at source, along with models for plastic-free markets and urban areas.

U Minh Thuong National Park reopens for tourists as fire risks ease

Hundreds of trees planted in Cuc Phuong National Park as part of Forestival

Renowned artists including Ha Anh Tuan, Den Vau, and Phan Manh Quynh, along with many directors and attendees, took part in planting hundreds of rare tree species such as mun (Diospyros mun) and cho chi (Parashorea chinensis) in the Thung Bong area of the Cuc Phuong National Park, contributing to forest ecosystem restoration.
