Journalists in six northern central provinces from Thanh Hoa to Thua Thien-Hue are gathering at a seminar in Nghe An province to sharpen up their skills in promoting the sea-based economy.

The three-day event, which opened on June 23, is part of the Vietnam Journalists Association’s efforts to increase its members’ awareness about the role of the media in advocating the marine-based economy.

Representatives from local press agencies and authorities deliver reports highlighting the potential and advantages of sea-based tourism in the region as well as its shortcomings.

They also underline the need of raising public awareness of the position and importance of Vietnam ’s sea and islands, and enhancing quality and diversity of the dissemination, saying that it is necessary to improve content and modes of broadcasting.

The event provides an opportunity for the participants to share experiences, working together to improve the distribution of information.

In recent years, journalists’ associations and press agencies in the region have attached importance to strengthening national sea and island promotion.

Many endorsements appear in newspapers and broadcast on the radio and television. They introduce traditional cultural values, tourist potentials and strengths of coastal provinces, as well as models for sustainable development of marine resources.

With a coastline of more than 600 kilometres and beautiful beaches such as Sam Son, Cua Lo, Thien Cam, Nhat Le and Cua Tung, the northern central provinces see the huge potential in developing sea tourism and their economies.-VNA
