A seminar on the role of higher education in adapting to climate and ecological change was held in the northern province of Quang Ninh on August 27.

Attending the event were representatives from the Hanoi National University and several leading Vietnamese universities, the head of the Vietnamese National Assembly’s Committee for Culture, Education, Youth and Children Dao Trong Thi, Deputy Director of the Japan-based United Nations University Dr. Kazuhiko Takeuchi, and representatives of the University Network for Climate and Ecological Change Adaptation Research (UNCECAR).

High on the agenda at the seminar were discussions about one of the biggest challenges to humankind in the 21 st century--climate and ecological change--and strategies for addressing this challenge.

Scientists shared their experiences in countering the impact that climate change has on every aspect of people’s lives, and discussed scientific research and training cooperation between universities under the UNCECAR system.

In particular, participants proposed an international master’s level training programme on climate and ecological change.

Addressing the seminar, Dr. Mai Trong Thuan, director of the Hanoi National University said his university will always be a reliable member of the UNCECAR system, striving to reduce the impact of climate change on humankind’s ability to achieve sustainable development and build a brighter future.
