A statement on the ambition issued by the PrimeMinister’s Office on May 19 pointed out the country’s advantages such as“an open and business-friendly environment, a high reputation, goodgovernance and strong institutions, well-developed infrastructure and askilled workforce.”
It affirmed these will “help Singapore totransform its economy, raise productivity, invest in research anddevelopment, and sharpen the country's competitive edge.”
Itadds, a strong economy would create more PMET (professional, managerial,executive and technical) jobs for Singaporeans and all youngSingaporeans would be supported to maximise their potential through agood education.
In response to the announcement, ministries began mapping out their respective policies and plans.
TheMinistry of Trade and Industry will set aside over 300 million SGD overthe next three years to support small and medium-sized enterprises(SMEs) in their restructuring efforts, spend 1 billion SGD from theNational Productivity Fund on productivity programmes, mainly targetedat SMEs, and help 40,000 to 45,000 young Singaporeans to enter the jobmarket each year over the next three years.
The Manpower Ministrysaid it would enhance job facilitation efforts for all displacedworkers, and improve accessibility to training for SMEs and theirworkers.
In terms of infrastructure, the government willcontinue to upgrade Singapore's port and airport and enhance thecountry's connectivity.-VNA
