Six Tra fish firms meet ASC quality standards

Six Tra fish processing firms have received certificates of the Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) for sustainable development at a conference held in Ho Chi Minh City on November 21.
Six Tra fish processing firms have received certificates of theAquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) for sustainable development at aconference held in Ho Chi Minh City on November 21.

This isexpected to open up the door to new markets for Vietnamese fishexporters since importers and consumers have now paid more attention toquality and social responsibility, the head of the ASC, Chris Ninnessaid.

ASC certification recognises and rewards farms that arefollowing responsible practices, including conservation of waterresources, no misuse of antibiotics, responsible use of feed, andbehaving in a socially responsible manner.

The six firms are VĩnhHoàn Corp, Hùng V ươ ng Corp, Hoàng Long, Vinh Quang, NTACO andAnvifish. Together they account for 10 percent of the national Tra fishoutput this year.
The Tra industry will achieve its target of 10percent of output meeting ASC standards by the end of this year,industry insiders said.
More than 90 percent of world exports ofTra fish is sourced from Vietnam , which exports 650,000 tonnes ofthe fish annually.-VNA

Vietnam takes steps to address drop in durian exports to China

A report from the ministry shows that Vietnam’s durian exports to China reached only 35,000 tonnes worth around 130 million USD in the first four months of this year, equivalent to only 20% of export targets. In comparison, durian exports totalled 500 million USD in the same period last year.
