Hanoi (VNA) – President Nguyen Xuan Phuc on August 13 visited and presented giftsto frontline forces performing COVID-19 prevention and prevention activitiesand locals in some areas in the capital city.

The Stateleader encouraged frontline forces to stay active in dealing with all arising situations, while reminding them to keep safety during their operations.

He asked localresidents to promote solidarity and mutual support, and strictly implementpandemic prevention and control regulations of the Government and Hanoi.

At a working sessionwith Hanoi leaders, President Phuc stressed the need to prioritise the promptcontrol of the pandemic in the capital city, making it a safe place togive support to other pandemic-hit localities.

He clarifiedthat the applying of social distancing measures following the Prime Minister's Directive 16 must beimplemented strictly with specific solutions and the involvement of the wholepolitical system from grassroots to city levels as well as people of all strata.

The currenttarget is to avoid hospital overloads and a surge in the number of infections anddeaths, he stated, adding that human lives must be placed on top.

He underlinedthe need to continue applying “5K message” and vaccination strategy, along withmore specific solutions, thus keeping the heart of the country safe.

Underlining thesignificance of COVID-19 vaccination, he said this is the way to reduce severe cases and deaths. Therefore, the city should consider speeding up delivery of vaccines to residents in red zones, senior residents, poor people and those with underlying health conditions.

He stressed theneed to ensure utmost safety for medical staff and frontline forces by prioritisingthem in vaccination scheme, while maintaining the circulation of goods andprepare medical equipment, medicine and oxygen to be ready for the worst situations.

The Stateleader said that the people are always in the core position of all policies ofthe Party and administration, thus all activities should be carried out withconsideration of people’s wish and voices, while strictly handling violations.

President Phucsuggested that Hanoi seek solutions to support pandemic-hit businesses,combine pandemic control and production maintenance in a suitable manner,thus ensuring resources for COVID-19 prevention and control activities andsocial welfare for locals.

On theoccasion, the State leader handed over 40 billion VND (1.75 million USD) raisedfrom the community to the Party Committee, administration and people of Hanoi to support their COVID-10 fight./.

Tien Giang steps up efforts to eliminate substandard houses

According to the Tien Giang People’s Committee, 485 homes for policy beneficiaries, families of war martyrs, and low-income households will be supported. Of these, 284 new homes will be built, and 201 existing ones repaired, with a total budget of 24.1 billion VND (about 984,000 USD). As of March 6, construction had started on 166 houses, with 32 already completed.

Bac Giang to eliminate substandard houses by November

Local authorities have identified 795 homes of poor and near-poor households and individuals with recognised service to the nation that qualify for support. Of these, 475 require complete reconstruction and 320 need significant repairs, with estimated costs totaling 39 billion VND (1.53 million USD).

Vietnamese, Chinese cities to build smart border gate pair

They also consented to promote the development of a cross-border economic cooperation zone through sectoral cooperation at Hai Yen industrial park, Van Ninh international port in Mong Cai; a cross-border e-commerce industrial park; and transport connectivity projects between the two cities including the international railway line from Mong Cai to Dongxing, Bac Luan III bridge, and an auxiliary rough steel bridge.
