Hanoi (VNA) – State President Truong Tan Sang called on the Vietnam Association of Farmers to make more efforts to realise the goal of industrialising and modernising the rural part of the country.
He met with the association to discuss the results of the five-year implementation of the Party Central Committee Secretariat’s Conclusion 61-KL/TU on raising the association’s responsibility in the development of agriculture, new rural area and farmer class during 2010-2020 in Hanoi on December 1.
The President said Vietnam’s agricultural sector could achieve more successes with the application of high technology and recommended the association boosting vocational training, technology transfer, and productivity.
He suggested that the association should recommend and multiply land-accumulating models for large-scale production; change management model to suit the new stage and solve problems relating to incentive loans to farmers.
The President also promised to examine the association’s recommendation on building a network of warehouses and equipment to preserve agro-products and increase investment into science and technology.
According to the association, the poverty rate in rural areas has reduced by 6.6 percent to 10.8 percent in 2014 and the income per capita increased 24.4 percent in the period, or 1.8 times higher than 2010.
Up to 579,870 households got loans for business and production and 97.6 percent of households had electricity.-VNA
