Storm Matmo has destroyed more than 6,800 metres of canals in Binh Dinh and Phu Yen provinces (Photo: VNA) Hanoi (VNA) – Storm Matmo, whichswept through the south central coast on October 30, has left one unaccountedfor and 14 injured, all in Quang Ngai province, as of 8:00 am on November 1.
According to the Standing Office of the CentralSteering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control, the storm, thefifth of its kind entering the East Sea this year, also destroyed more than 2,100 houses andsubmerged 200 others in Binh Dinh.
More than 210 hectares of rice and 5,300hectares of other crops in Phu Yen were damaged while over 72 hectares ofaquatic breeding areas were destroyed.
In Binh Dinh, 2,000 metres of sea embankmentwere eroded.
The storm also destroyed more than 6,800 metresof canals in Binh Dinh and Phu Yen.
Coastal erosions were seen in localities of PhuYen, Binh Dinh, Quang Ngai and Khanh Hoa provinces.
Many localities in Quang Ngai, Binh Dinh and PhuYen suffered from blackouts, while 35 schools in these provinces were damaged.
At an online meeting on November 1 on dealingwith the storm’s aftermaths, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Developmentrequested affected localities to report their losses and damage, and proposethe kind of support they need, while taking measures to help local peoplerestore their normal life./.
