
Three fourth-gradestudents from Dang Chau Primary School in Tuyen Quang designed a steel boatwith an oil spill-absorption and -filter system after they had been taughtabout the influence of oil spills on the environment.
They used bagasse forthe filtration.
They also made a modelof a solar-powered water treatment tank.
Two high-school studentsfrom Van Ban High School in Lao Cai province made an instrument that measureswater level and speed, automatically lights up at night, catches hazardousinsects and warns of danger in spillways.
They hope to popularisethe instrument in northern provinces to ensure safety for teachers and studentsduring the rain-flood season.
Twenty-eight other teamswon excellence awards.
The contest was meantfor students aged 6 to 30.
Nearly 1,500 entries hadbeen received by the Vietnam Environment Administration, which organised thecontest together with the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union’s CentralCommittee. Friesland Campina Vietnam was the main sponsor.
The entries pertained toenergy saving, environment-friendly products, biological conservation, andsolid, liquid and gaseous waste recycling and treatment.
Some also suggestedpolicy and education solutions for environment protection and IT application inenvironment management.
The contest was part ofa programme called For Vietnam’s Green Environment carried out by the administrationand the company since last year. — VNA
