Almost 100 children aged from 10-16 years old have registered to attend a forum on promoting children’s Right to Participation to be held in Hanoi from Nov. 20-21, that encourages them to join in developing a national programme of action for children in the next decade.
The Vietnam Association for Protection of the Rights of the Child said at a press briefing in Hanoi on November 19 that the event is co-sponsored by the association and Save the Children-Vietnam organisation.
Organisers will provide children with opportunities to join in group discussions, lecturing and dialogues as well as to raise voices on targets of the group “Rights to Participation” in the national programme of action for children in the 2011-20 period.
The participants will also be trained in the knowledge of the Right to Participation as well as skills to discover issues related to exercising the rights of the child in the community. They will organise activities for children mostly based on children’s clubs in order to increase their awareness and promote the exercise of children’s rights in the community.
Most worthy of note is that the forum will hold a dialogue round between children and leaders of the National Assembly, ministries, professional and social organisations as a bridge to connect children with adults.
Recommendations and proposals made by children at the forum will be used as references for responsible agencies in compiling the national programme on children for the next decade./.
