Apart from oil and gas, rubber and hydro power sectors, telecoms is likely to become the spearhead hi-tech field with investment speed faster and prospects of a higher return than the aforementioned sectors.

Since starting its investment in Cambodia in 2006, Viettel group has invested in mobile networks in five countries on three continents, including Laos and Cambodia (Asia), Haiti and Peru ( America ) and Mozambique ( Africa ).

With mobile networks MetFone in Cambodia and Unitel in Laos , Viettel is expected to double its 2011 profit to 80 million USD this year.

General Director of Viettel group Hoang Anh Xuan said the group plans to sell shares of its MetFone network which is worth 900 million USD to raise capital for the Movitel network in Mozambique .

According to Viettel Deputy General Director Nguyen Manh Hung, the group will raise the number of its mobile phone subscribers from 60 million at present to 500 million in 2015 and 1 billion by 2010.

Meanwhile, the Vietnam Post and Telecommunications Group (VNPT) has invested in underground cables, cyber network and broadband Internet through its member companies in the US , Singapore , Hong Kong and the Czech Republic .

Earlier this year, VNPT merged its VNPT Global with MobiFone to boost investment in overseas mobile networks.

Software giant FPT is also eyeing to invest in the overseas markets. FPT General Director Truong Dinh Anh revealed that his group is seeking investment opportunities abroad such as Myanmar, an untapped potential market.-VNA
