Hanoi (VNA) – President Truong Tan Sang has signed a decision presenting gifts to people who made significant contributions to the national revolutionary cause, on the occasion of the traditional Lunar New Year (Tet).
The beneficiaries, including Vietnamese heroic mothers, war invalids, and fallen soldiers’ family members, as well as those exposed to toxic chemicals during war, will receive gift packages, each worth between 200,000 VND (9 USD) and 400,000 VND (18 USD).
Organisations and businesses across the country are also making donations to bring a warm holiday to those in disadvantaged conditions.
The Syngenta Vietnam Company and the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of the northern province of Ha Giang, handed over houses to poor ethnic minority people in Lung Cu commune, Dong Van district, on January 11-12.
On January 12, the Vietnam Bank for Social Policies granted 250 Tet gifts to needy households and social welfare beneficiaries in the northern mountainous province of Dien Bien .
The Red Cross Society of the central province of Thanh Hoa has raised nearly 19 billion VND (855,000 USD) from businesses, organisations, and individuals to present about 50,000 gift packages to underprivileged locals.
Meanwhile, the southernmost province of Ca Mau spent over 34 billion VND (1.53 million USD) presenting gifts to social welfare beneficiaries and people living under or near the poverty line.
A programme will be held at the Culture Tourism Village of Vietnamese Ethnic Groups on January 30-31 to wrap 1,200 Chung cake (Vietnamese square glutinous rice cake) to present to wounded soldiers, orphans, and Agent Orange/Dioxin victims in Son La, Ha Giang, and Cao Bang provinces.-VNA
