Thailand’s car exports reached a 25-year high level in August with more than 103,000 units sold at nearly 48 billion THB, increasing 17.96 percent and 12.8 percent in volume and value respectively compared to the same period last year.

A source from the Automotive Industry Club said that the country’s vehicle exports in the first eight months of the year totalled 720,141 units, up 12.42 percent year on year, while the export value in the period was up 7 percent to stand at 328.24 billion THB.

However, vehicle production in August dropped 9.94 percent to over 193,000 units, in comparison to August 2012. Vehicle output was below 200,000 unit level for the first time in 15 months, excluding April, which has fewer working days.

Eight-month output amounted to over 1.7 million units, increasing 16.4 percent against the same period last year.

Domestic car sales over the month totalled more than 100,000 units, down 22.6 percent against last August. Car sales over the first eight months stood at 939,342 units, up 8.2 percent on the same period last year.-VNA
