Senior Lieutenant General Do Ba Ty, Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army, hosted a welcome ceremony in Hanoi on April 20 for General Worapong Sanganetra, Chief of Defence Forces of the Royal Thai Armed Forces during his official visit to Vietnam.

The visit, from April 19-21, was also designed for General Worapong Sanganetra to introduce his new position to Vietnamese military leaders, a practice normally observed in ASEAN.

At their follow-up talks, Ty expressed his hopes that in the new post General Worapong Sanganetra would have fresh, practical, and efficient contributions to the two countries’ defence cooperation.

Bilateral defence affiliation has grown extensively, especially after the signing of a memorandum of understanding in 2012, which facilitated visit exchange, personnel training, communication, joint patrols at sea, and search and rescue activities, Ty said.

The two officers discussed national, regional, and global situations as well as issues that could affect security and defence of each country and the whole ASEAN.

They also worked on orientations and measures to bolster army cooperation efficiency.-VNA
