Bangkok (VNA) King of Thailand Maha Vajiralongkorn on November 24 approved the list of Thailand’s cabinet members proposed by Prime Minister Prayut Chan-ocha a week ago.

The list, which was made public after the approval, changed 18 cabinet positions.

The reshuffle aimed to focus on improving the effectiveness of agencies related to economy, However, major important cabinet members remained unchanged, excepting for seats in the Ministries of Commerce, Sports and Tourism, and Agriculture.

In the list of new cabinet members, Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives Chatchai Sarikulya takes the position as a deputy prime minister, while Deputy PM ACM Prajin Juntong becomes the Minister of Justice.

Deputy PMs Tanasak Patimapragorn and Narong Pipatnasai as well as Deputy Defence Minister Udomdej Sitabutr no longer held their positions.

The reshuffle took place amidst the context of increasing complaints of socio-economic issues. Public opinion polls showed that the majority of Thai people demand breakthrough changes in economic and social matters.

Poj Aramwattanaporn, Vice President of the Thai Chamber of Commerce and Board of Trade said that the adjustments are practical.

Meanwhile, Tida Tawornseth, head of the United Front for Democracy Against Dictatorship, commented that the reshuffle is a preparation step of the government ahead of the general elections slated for late 2018.-VNA
