Bangkok (VNA) – Thai Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva affirmed on March 13 that he will dissolve the House of Representatives in the first week of May, paving the way for an election campaign in the country.
Under the Thai law, an election must be held between 45 and 60 days after the dissolution.
In the weekly broadcast, the PM called on parties to prepare for the elections and political sides to cease turmoil out of the parliament when the House of Representatives was dissolved.
The same day, the Election Commission (EC) said the general elections will be held on June 26 or July 3 if the PM’s plan of dissolving the lower house is unchanged.
EC will hold a meeting on March 15 to discuss the revised election draft law in the spirit of the revised Constitution for early submission to the National Assembly./.
