Thailand, Cambodia record positive signals in containing COVID-19

Thailand recorded 19 new cases of COVID-19 and one death on April 21, bringing its total to 2,811, including 48 deaths.

Bangkok (VNA) – Thailandrecorded 19 new cases of COVID-19 and one death on April 21, bringing its totalto 2,811, including 48 deaths.

Spokesman of the Thai Government’s Centre for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) Taweesin Wisanuyothin, this is the lowest number counted in a day over the lastmonth. 

According to the spokesman, Thailand continuedto record positive signs in the fight against the epidemic with 36 out of 77provinces and cities nationwide did not report any new cases during the last 14days.

Earlier, the Thai government issued an Emergency Order from March 26 to April30 to restrict people from traveling and force them to stay indoors to contain thespread of the pandemic.

Meanwhile, the Cambodian Ministry of Health on the same day said the country had not recorded any new COVID-19 cases. As of April 21 morning, the number of COVID-19cases in Cambodia totaled 122.

The country is focusing onclosely monitoring workers returning to Phnom Penh after the Khmer New Yearholiday Chol Chnam Thmay, and considering the possibility of infection amongpeople in some areas in the capital city.

In Indonesia, PresidentJoko Widodo has announced his decision to ban a massive exodus ahead of the IdulFitri mudik holiday, in an effort to curb the spread of COVID-19.

Speaking at an online cabinet meeting,Widodo said the decision was made based on government assessments afterrepeated warnings related to the disease.

This year, Idul Fitri - the great holidayof Muslims right after the end of Ramadan - will take place in a month fromApril 23. In previous years, this holiday often entailed a large migration withdozens of millions of people from urban areas flocking to rural areas of the SoutheastAsian nation.

As of April 20,Indonesia confirmed a total of 6,760 cases of COVID-19, including 590 deaths, while 747 patients had recovered and discharged from hospital./.
