Thailand, India strengthen bilateral relations

IndianPrime Minister Manmohan Singh arrived in Bangkok on May 30 for atwo-day official visit with the aim of strengthening bilateralcooperation in all areas, especially in trade, investment and tourism.
The two PMs agreed to enhance the connectivity between the twocountries and between Southeast Asia and South Asia after reviewingthe development of their existing cooperation.

They witnessed thesigning of several documents that will help strengthen bilateral tiesin various fields, including an extradition treaty, and memorandums ofunderstanding on cooperation in space, education and financial control.

Thevisit reaffirmed Thailand as a gateway to forge the links betweenIndia and Southeast Asia . Thailand and India announced toelevate their relations to a strategic partnership and this visitreflected both sides' desires to promote sustainable growth anddevelopment.

This is the first official visit toThailand by Prime Minister Singh, who visited Thailand twicebefore, to attend the 1st BIMSTEC Summit in 2004 and the 15th ASEANSummit in 2011.

The visit features the closer relations betweenthe two nations as well as the "Look West" policy of Thailand and"Look East" Policy of India. -VNA
