Thailand moves to boost bilateral trade with RoK

Thailand is eyeing economic opportunities at the 17th Meeting of the ASEAN-Korea Free Trade Agreement Implementing Committee (AKFTA-IC) in Seoul from February 12-14.

Bangkok (NNT/VNA) – Thailand is eyeing economic opportunities atthe 17th Meeting of the ASEAN-Korea Free Trade Agreement Implementing Committee(AKFTA-IC) in Seoul from February 12-14.

Director-General of the Department of Trade Negotiations, (DTN) AuramonSupthaweethum said that Thailand is intent on advancing sales of keycommodities, namely, fish, cassava, mango, brown rice, processed food, plasticsand chemicals, clothing, and ceramics, to facilitate its business operations inthe Republic of Korea.

Thailand is also pushing ASEAN and the RoK to achieve atrade goal of 200 billion USD by next year.

With the 30th anniversary of ASEAN-Korea relations, the director general indicatedthat the two sides will discuss the ASEAN-Korea Summit expected to be held inNovember and December of this year.

The RoK is Thailand’s 10th mostimportant trading partner. In 2018, the mutual trade accounted for 13.76 billion USD or 2.74 percent of Thailand’s total trade, up by 8.76 percent fromthe previous year.

The RoK’s exports reached 4.88 billion USD whereas itsimports were valued at 8.87 billion USD.– NNT/VNA
