The Thai Tourism Department has outlined a plan to develop new tourist attractions in preparation for active campaigns next year with a goal of generating a revenue of 2.2 trillion THB, up from 1.85 trillion THB projected for this year.

The plan is a response to key tourism policies launched by Minister of Tourism and Sports Kobkarn Wattanavrangkul, who is pushing for recovery of the industry damaged by the political unrest earlier this year.

The attractions will be developed in 12 provinces including Lampang, Phetchabun, Nan, Buri Ram, Loei, Samut Songkhram, Ratchaburi, Trat, Chanthaburi, Trang, Chumphon and Nakhon Si Thammarat.

They will serve as models in luring tourists in the future, Director-General of Tourism Department Arnupap Gaesornsuwan was quoted by Bangkok Post as saying.

They will include community tours focused on local products and culture, tour routes proposed by local communities, training courses for dwellers to welcome visitors from other ASEAN members after the ASEAN Economic Community integration, and the development of cultural destinations with international potential.-VNA
