– Thailand’s Ministry of Social Development and Human Security has held a press conference to confirm its readiness to host ASEAN meetings regarding the socio-cultural community.

Mr. Porametee Vimolsiri, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security, presided over the press conference and revealed that as this year Thailand is chairman of the ASEAN community, the ministry is ready to host two major meetings; one between May 13 and 18 at Chiang Mai and other set to be held in October in Bangkok.

On the agenda is the 26th Meeting of the Senior Officials Committee for the ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community; the 21st Meeting of the ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community Council, and other related forums.

These meetings will create effective collaboration and sustainable development in many sectors, such as children’s and women’s rights, the environment, arts and culture, education and many more spheres of mutual concern.

The ministry also hopes that Thailand will benefit from this year’s ASEAN Chairmanship on the theme of "Advancing Partnerships for Sustainability" by being a good host and ensuring a warm welcome for foreign guests. This will help pave the way towards making Thailand the acknowledged center of the ASEAN community in the future.-NNT/VNA
