Thailand is set to host the Thai-Lao Joint Boundary Committee meeting on August 15, which is aimed at finding solution to problems in the border area and increasing the number of check points.

Speaking prior to the Thai-Lao JBC meeting, Thai Foreign Minister Surapong Tovichakchaikul said it will be the ninth meeting and the first of its kind in six years between both countries, to which Thailand will play host.

The minister said the decision to revive this JBC meeting came on the heels of the meeting between him and Thongloun Sisoulith, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Laos early this year.

Both parties met earlier this year, during which they agreed to solve conflicts along the borderline and to set clear boundaries so that there will be no crossing over or misunderstanding in future.

The Thai-Lao Joint Boundary Committee meeting will focus on the same issues. As of now, the two sides are jointly considering setting up 11 additional checkpoints along their border.-VNA
