Thousands of people, mainly youngsters and students, participatedin “Chu nhat do 2021” (Red Sunday) blood donation festival, which openedat the Hanoi University of Technology in the capital city on January 17.

Withthe theme "Donating blood to save people - Your Life and My Life",the annual event is organised by TienPhong (Vanguard) newspaper, the National Steering Committee forTraffic Safety and the National Institute of Haematology and Blood Transfusions(NIHBT).

Theannual event has become a meaningful humanitarian activity on a national scale,aiming to handle blood shortages during the Tet (Lunar New Year) holiday.

Speakingat the event, Le Xuan Son, Editor-in-Chief of TienPhong newspaper, Head of the Red Sunday 2021 organising committee, saidthat this year's Red Sunday was held early and will end later than every yearwith an aim to collect more blood for emergencies and treatmentduring and after the coming Tet.

“Sincethe end of November 2020, a series of blood donation festivals have beenorganised in 33 localities of 19 provinces and cities across the country. As ofJanuary 16, the 13th Red Sunday has received more than 27,000 blood units. Weexpect to receive at least 50,000 blood units at 80 localities of 43 provincesand cities nationwide,” said Son./.

Over 200 medical staff pledge organ donation in transformative campaign

At the launching ceremony for the campaign at the hospital on March 25, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Tuan Canh, NOH Director underscored organ donation is a symbol of human compassion that transcends life itself, with each donated liver, kidney, cornea or tissue able offer a life-saving opportunity to those teetering on the edge of death.

PM releases instructions as measles cases increase

Vietnam has recorded nearly 40,000 suspected measles cases and five measles-related deaths since the beginning of this year. The southern region reported the highest number of cases (57%), the central region accounted for 19.2%, the north 15.1%, and the Central Highlands 8.7%.

Rota vaccine campaign launched
