Hanoi (VNA) – Thousands of residents in seven states of Malaysia were evacuated on January 1.

So far, over 125,000 people have been hit by the heavy rainfalls lasting two weeks in the country.

The National Disaster Management Committee said the states of Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang, Johor, Malacca, Negeri Sembilan and Sabah are still affected by the flooding and 8,727 people were forced to evacuate to 128 temporary shelters.

According to the Malaysian police, 50 were killed and two others went missing in the disaster.   

The Malaysian Government will offer over 336 million USD in cash aid or other forms to support victims. It also suggested the United Nations Green Climate Fund aid 3 million USD for its national climate change response plan./.
