Top Vietnamese, Chinese leaders hold phone talks

Hanoi (VNA) – General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV)Central Committee Nguyen Phu Trong held phone talks with General Secretary ofthe Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and President of China Xi Jinpingon September 24.

The Vietnamese leader congratulated the Chinese people on the greatachievements that they have achieved under the leadership of the CPC over thepast 100 years and highly evaluated China's successes in COVID-19 preventionand control, and social-economic development.

He also congratulated China on its 72nd National Day and expressed his beliefthat the Chinese people, under the leadership of the CPC with Xi as the core,will successfully realise the goal of building China into a modern socialist,rich and strong, democratic, civilised, harmonious and beautiful country.

The Vietnamese leader emphasised that although the COVID-19 pandemic has profoundlyaffected all aspects of life, exchanges and cooperation between the twocountries, the relationship between the two Parties and the two nations hasstill maintained its development momentum.

Trong thanked China for sharing experience and supporting Vietnam with vaccinesin the fight against COVID-19. He expressed his wish that the two sideswill  continue cooperation in COVID-19 prevention and control andpost-pandemic recovery.

The Party chief affirmed that Vietnam attaches importance to the friendlyneighbourliness and comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership with Chinaand underlined the need to increase the exchange of high-level delegations aswell as those of ministries, agencies and localities.

Trong suggested the two sides continue to implement the agreements reachedbetween the two countries as well as the deals on free trade and bordereconomy. He suggested China create favourable conditions for a trade balancebetween the two countries, speeding up procedures for formally licensing theimport of a number of Vietnam's key agricultural products.

The Vietnamese leader also proposed China increase investment in large projects,representing its development level, coordinate to solve problems and enhancepeople-to-people exchanges.

Trong suggested the two sides continue to closely collaborate in bordermanagement and protection, strictly implement legal documents on the land borderbetween the two countries, build a shared borderline of peace, stability,cooperation, and development.

He called on the two sides to continue improving the effectiveness of maritimecooperation; promote discussions and negotiations on the delimitation andproperly handle maritime issues, and effectively coordinate with theAssociation of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in negotiations to build apractical and effective Code of Conduct in the East Sea (COC) in accordancewith international law, including the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Lawof the Sea (UNCLOS).

Xi, for his part, congratulated Vietnam on its 76th National Day.He thanked Vietnam for coordinating with China to organise many activitieson the occasion of the 100th founding anniversary of the CPC. He thanked andhighly appreciated the Vietnamese Party chief for sending a message ofcongratulations and accepting his invitation to attend and deliver a speech atthe CPC and World Political Parties Summit.

The Chinese leader lauded the achievements that the Vietnamese people havereaped in recent years under the leadership of the Party and Government ofVietnam. He expressed his confidence that the Vietnamese Party, Government, andpeople will successfully realise the goals and tasks set out by the 13thNational Party Congress as well as his support for the Vietnamese Party andpeople’s following the socialist path suitable to the country's conditions. Healso backed Vietnam’s efforts to push back the the pandemic, and promotesocio-economic development.

The Chinese leader affirmed that China attaches great importance to thetraditional friendly neighbourliness with Vietnam and is willing to work withthe Party, Government, and people of Vietnam to continue strengthening thecomprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between the two countries inthe process of building socialism. He also agreed to enhance high-levelexchanges and boost practical cooperation in various fields, coordinatetogether at multilateral forums, and properly handle maritime issues.

Xi said that given the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, it was necessary forthe two sides to maintain regular exchanges and meetings at all levels,sectors, and localities, speed up strategic connectivity and form new brightspots in cooperation between the two countries./.
