Hanoi (VNA) - The Lao tourismindustry employs 114,000 people and is considered a top revenue earner of thecountry.

According to the latest report by the WorldTravel & Tourism Council (WTTC) cited by the Vientiane Times, tourism employmentis expected to hit 121,000 or three percent of the Lao workforce in 2028.

Lao Deputy Minister of Information, Cultureand Tourism Ounthuang Khaophanh said the sector drives economic growth andpoverty alleviation.

It has helped improve infrastructure,including the building of roads, airports and hotels, he added.

In 2017, Laos’ GDP received 2 billlion USDfrom tourism, a figure forecast to hit 3.3 billion USD this year.

The local Government has launched the Laos TourismYear 2018 in an effort to lure more tourists.-VNA
