Hanoi (VNA) - The Lao tourism industry employs 114,000 people and is considered a top revenue earner of the country.
According to the latest report by the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) cited by the Vientiane Times, tourism employment is expected to hit 121,000 or three percent of the Lao workforce in 2028.
Lao Deputy Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism Ounthuang Khaophanh said the sector drives economic growth and poverty alleviation.
It has helped improve infrastructure, including the building of roads, airports and hotels, he added.
In 2017, Laos’ GDP received 2 billlion USD from tourism, a figure forecast to hit 3.3 billion USD this year.
The local Government has launched the Laos Tourism Year 2018 in an effort to lure more tourists.-VNA
