Trade union development gets Danish support

A programme supported by Denmark to assist the private business sector to strengthen capacity for trade unions, beginning in 2005, has brought remarkable results, said the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour (VGCL) on Oct. 26.
A programme supported by Denmark to assist the private business sectorto strengthen capacity for trade unions, beginning in 2005, has broughtremarkable results, said the Vietnam General Confederation ofLabour (VGCL) on Oct. 26.

At a sum-up of theimplementation of the programme’s second component, the VGCL assessedthe programme after five years as having helped trade unions in Nghe An,Khanh Hoa and Lam Dong provinces attract more members and set upgrassroots trade unions.

The programme also helpedtrade unionists improve capacity in negotiating, signing andsupervising collective agreements on labour safety and hygiene, andsettling disputes.

After five years, the threeprovinces’ trade unions admitted 30,500 members, set up 751 grassrootsbranches, and signed 238 new collective agreements.

The quality of these agreements was also improved, focusing on majorissues such as salaries, working time, leave, welfare, bonuses andinsurance.

The programme with financial supportfrom the Danish International Development Cooperation Agency (DANIDA),aims to assist the Vietnamese Government, trade unions and employers toimprove competitiveness in the business sector./.

In the new context, Politburo Resolution No. 23-NQ/TW, dated August 2, 2026, continues to place the preservation of the Vietnamese language within the strategic vision of mobilising resources from the Vietnamese community abroad and promoting Vietnamese cultural values around the world.

Phu Tho: 200kg bomb safely relocated, detonated

According to a report by the Phu Tho Military Command, local residents spotted the bomb on August 31 in the Da River after the river water receded, exposing it beneath mud and soil on the riverbed. The bomb remained intact, including its fuse, and was located about 300m from a residential area.

Shift to data-driven administrative procedures needs acceleration

Under a draft decree replacing Decree 63, authorities will have to proactively pull information from databases and records for informational or technical procedures. Applicants would no longer be required to resubmit documents, and certification or information requests could not be turned into discretionary licensing through an “ask – give” mechanism.
