Vietnamese representative Nguyen Thi Thuy Trien pocketed a bronze medalat the World Youth Chess Championships 2013, which closed in the UnitedArab Emirates over the weekend.
Thuy Trien,competing in the girls' under-18 blitz category, grabbed 5 points afterseven matches. The Binh Dinh-province girl ranked behind Severina Mariaof Russia (7 points) and Prince Michelle Catherina from India (5.5points).
Her teammateBach Ngoc Thuy Duong took fourth place in the girls' U-10 blitzcategory. Duong had the same 6 points as the top three Zhang Xiao ofChina, Chua Jia-Tien of Malaysia and Chidambaram Lakshmi but scored in alower sub-index.
Nguyen Ngan Ha stood fifth in thegirls' U-8 blitz class, with 5.5 points, 0.5 points less than thewinners Ravi Rakshitta of India, Kamalidenova Meruert ofKazakhstan and Patil Bhagyashree Pravin of India. She has the samepoints as Deshmukh Divya Jitendra of India but scored in a lowersub-index.
The WorldYouth Chess Championships 2013 (Under 8, 10,12, 14, 16 and 18 yearsold–open and girls) in Al Ain was played using the Swiss System with 11rounds. The national rankings will not be taken into account forpairings.
The rate of play will be in accordancewith the FIDE rules: 90 minutes for the first 40 moves followed by 30minutes for the rest of the game with an addition of 30 seconds per movestarting from move one.
World Youth Chess Championships 2012 has produced 12 new World youthchampions. The category U-10 open was special as FM Nguyen Anh Khoi fromVietnam won the gold medal with two points ahead of CM Sargsyan Shan(Armenia) and FM Ram Aravind L N from India.-VNA
