Trinh Xuan Thanh continues rejecting “asset embezzlement” accusation

Hanoi(VNA) - Trinh Xuan Thanh, former Chairman of the Board of Directors of thePetroVietnam Construction Corporation (PVC), continued denying the“embezzlement of assets” during a trial for him and his accomplices on January15.

A representative fromthe Supreme People’s Procuracy said that nine out of ten defendants involved inthe “asset embezzlement” case in the PVC have admitted their guilty, exceptingfor Thanh.

The trial saw fiercearguments between prosecutors and Thanh’s lawyers.

Meanwhile, Luong VanHoa, former Director of the Management Board of Vung Ang-Quang Trach project,Nguyen Anh Minh, former PVC Vice General Director, Vu Duc Thuan, former PVCGeneral Director, and Bui Manh Hien, former head of PVC Office, continued confirmingthat Trinh Xuan Thanh initiated the idea of forming a “black fund” for domesticand external affairs.

As many as 16lawyers registered to defend legitimate rights and interests of the defendants,six of them defend Thanh.-VNA

The remains of 12 Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts, who laid down their lives in different periods in Laos’ Savannakhet province, were repatriated following a handover ceremony on May 21. They will be re-buried at the Road 9 National Martyrs Cemetery in Vietnam's central province of Quang Tri on May 22.
