Tropical depression in Philippines forecast to enter East Sea soon

A tropical depression east of the Philippines will grow into a storm in the next few hours and roll into the East Sea soon, said the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting.

Hanoi (VNA) – A tropical depression east of the Philippines is forecast to grow into a storm in the next few hours and roll into the East Sea soon, according to the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting.

At 4am of July 30, the depression’s centre was at 12.5 degrees north latitude and 127.9 degrees east longitude, in the waters east of the Philippines’s central region. It sustained wind speeds of about 50 – 60km per hour.

In the next 24 hours, it will move north-northwest at some 10 – 15km per hour and may develop into a storm.

At 7pm of July 30, the eye of the possible storm will be at 15.2 degrees north latitude and 126.2 degrees east longitude, about 520km to the east-southeast of the Philippines’s Luzon Island. Its strongest wind speeds can reach 60 – 75km per hour.

In the following 24 – 48 hours, the storm is predicted to move northwest at 15 – 20km per hour and continue to intensify, the forecasting centre said.-VNA
