The Binh Duong-based Eastern International University (EIU) has beentraining 1,300 students since it was operational two years ago and asmany as 140 enterprises have recruited the students even though theyhave not graduated yet.
In addition to those businesses,nearly 5,000 others run by Becamex IDC. Corp in the province’sindustrial zones are ideal venues for students to practice what theyhave learned at school, said the university’s rector, Dr. Nguyen VanPhuc, at a working section with the Vietnam Private UniversityAssociation (VPUA) on April 1.
The goal of the EIUis to train human resources that meet the demands of businesses and canwork immediately after graduation, he said.
VPUAChairman Tran Hong Quan spoke highly of the EIU’s efforts in fulfillingenrolment targets set by the Ministry of Education and Training, with anaverage of 100 students for each major.
Thetraining model the EIU is applying, which bases on certificates and hasthree terms per year, excluding extra lessons during the summer, is anew approach to modern teaching method that helps reduce training timeand enables students to graduate ahead of four-year schedule, he said.
It’s good for the school to apply an internationalstandard curriculum for training human resources that will work for FDIenterprises operating in Binh Duong, he noted, adding that it hascreated a new momentum for the southern province to attract moreinvestment.
The EIU now has 7 majors at bachelordegree, including Electronics & Electricity Engineering Technology,Monitoring Techniques and Automation, Electronic Mechanical EngineeringTechnology, Soft Techniques, Media and Computer Network, BusinessAdministration and Nursing.
With the curriculumcomposed under the international standards AACSB and ABET with theassistance of the US’s Portland State University, the EIU will be thedoor for students to get “transnational education at hometown” withVietnamese cost or transferring to a foreign university or enteringuniversities in the US.-VNA
