Hanoi (VNA) – The US National Centre for Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) will work to draw businesses to the CEO Summit as part of the APEC Year in 2017 in Vietnam. President of the centre Monica Whaley spoke about the work while meeting with President Tran Dai Quang in Hanoi on December 9.
She said the centre will coordinate with Vietnam to host the summit to persuade business players to invest in the Southeast Asian market.
Monica highly valued Vietnam’s priorities for the APEC Year in 2017 and recalled the country’s successful organisation of the event in 2006.
She also praised Vietnam’s active role and involvement in APEC cooperation progress.
She said the CEO Summit is an important event; hence, the direct interaction and discussion between leaders of member economies and businesses need due attention.
In turn, President Tran Dai Quang spoke highly of the active engagement of the US National Centre in Vietnam’s activities since the country played the host of APEC 2006 for the first time.
He told the guest that APEC 2017 will take place in November in the central coastal city of Da Nang with a series of events such as the 25th APEC Summit, the CEO Summit, and forums on trade and investment promotion and start-up.
As a partner of the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the US National Centre is expected to support and share experience with Vietnam to achieve a successful APEC Year, he said.
The Vietnamese State welcomes initiatives of the business community to promote trade and investment in the region, he added.
He reiterated Vietnam’s wish to attract more US businesses to invest in the fields of infrastructure, high technology, energy, services, and enable micro and small-and medium-sized enterprises to join the trans-national supply chains./.
