
Attending the festival, Vice President Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh expressedher belief that the event will contribute to fulfilling the country’s maritime strategyto 2020 with a vision to 2030, making Vietnam a strong sea-based economy.
The vice president lauded the support given by the VietnamFarmers’ Association and its local chapters to fishermen, officers andsoldiers, thus helping them overcome all difficulties to maintain offshorefishing and firmly protect the fatherland’s sovereignty over seas and islands.
She noted that Vietnam holds great potential in maritimeeconomic development, with a long coastline, almost 3,000 islands and anexclusive economic zone spanning more than 1 million square kilometers.
She also asked the Ministry of Agriculture and RuralDevelopment and the Vietnam Farmers’ Association to seek new measures to encouragefishermen to actively respond to emulation movements to expand fishingactivities.
On this occasion, the vice president presented gifts to theParty Organisation, administration and people of Cat Hai district as well as anumber of policy beneficiary families in the localities. She also visited the borderstation of Cat Ba island and several local fishermen.-VNA
